Small bricklaying jobs made easy

Building a new house or an extension is one thing, but sometimes you need a bricklayer for a small job like constructing a new letterbox, a support wall, or a planter box. BorisDoes bricklayers are just as serious about small jobs as they are about big jobs. Small jobs can often be organised to fit between larger projects if you're flexible. That means you can get a small amount of brickwork completed in a day or two. If you have a small job that needs to be done, start a task or request a quote, share the details of your mini-project, and we'll get you quotes and estimates from brickies near you.

Brick wall maintenance, pointing and repointing

As a general rule, the mortar between your bricks won't last as long as the bricks themselves. That means while the bricks might last for decades and decades, the mortar between your brickwork should be replaced periodically. It sounds complicated, but experienced bricklayers have a range of techniques they can use to replace mortar either in part or in full. Regular maintenance of mortar is becoming a more and more sought-after service as houses are renovated and restored rather than being demolished and replaced. The construction industry has responded and plenty of bricklayers offer a range of maintenance services for mortar between joints and different layers of mortar in different types of brick walls.

Top quality retaining walls

Brick or concrete block walls are a popular choice for construction sites where a new home build hasn't started yet. That's because materials can be moved onto site quickly and easily and retaining walls can be completed as part of initial earthworks. The key with retaining walls is to choose weather resistant materials that ensure your retaining wall stands the test of time. Choosing the right materials usually means choosing the right bricklayer with relevant experience constructing retaining walls. To find a great bricklaying contractor who can provide a top-quality service, simply start a task or request a quote right here on BorisDoes.

What is bricklaying?

Bricklaying is the process of placing cement blocks or bricks in rows on top of each other with mortar or cement in between to create a wall or other structure. Typically bricks laid to create a wall are arranged with a consistently horizontal alignment. Mortar is applied between layers using a trowel and excess mortar is removed, leaving a consistent layer of mortar between layers of bricks.

Can I choose from a range of bricks?

Absolutely. Australian brick manufacturers make a wide range of bricks to suit a variety of different applications. From traditional clay bricks for aesthetic applications and recycled bricks for structures you'll never see, to pre-cut stone and concrete blocks for sturdy structural elements. As a customer you have access to different types of building blocks for your project and you can discuss the best options with your bricklaying Tasker or Business before you get a quote.

What sort of training or qualifications should a bricklayer have?

In different Australian states and territories there are different types of formal training for bricklayers, but in most cases bricklayers complete apprenticeships that include a combination of TAFE study and on-the-job training that provides practical skills. In-depth and thorough training are hallmarks of TAFE trades apprenticeships and vocational education and training. Modern training has produced a generation of highly capable bricklayers and BorisDoes is proud to count many of them as member Taskers and Businesses ready to provide you with services.
