Should I pack my things before my removalist arrives?

Most removalists offer a packing service which includes the wrapping and boxing of all items in your house and the transportation of those items along with your furniture. In most cases, you should arrange this service in advance and provide a comprehensive list of the items in your house so that your removalists can estimate costs for you. Where you have not arranged a packing service in advance, you will be expected to have your things packed before removalists arrive. If you do not, this may increase the cost of your more, especially if the only solution is to arrange a last-minute packing service. Plan in advance and decide how your removalist service should be managed.

What if I am planning to relocate interstate?

Some removalists specialise in interstate moves and might be a better option than hiring a local removalist and hoping they will be able to manage your interstate move. When you request a quote or start a task on BorisDoes for a removalist service, specify how far you are moving. Interstate moves happen all the time, but are still less common than local moves. Make sure your chosen removalist offers interstate removal services.

What precious items or particular pieces of furniture?

Some items are easy to move and are a normal part of a removal service. Most general quotes assume a fridge, washing machine and dryer, a lounge or two, a bed from each bedroom, and some shelves and cupboards. If you have something unique, special, expensive or particularly heavy, make sure you tell your removalist before they provide you with a quote. Leaving items like that out of your list of furniture can set you up for a shock later on when your quote needs to be varied to take the unexpected item into account. The best known examples are a piano or pool table - heavy furniture, often expensive, and often much-loved. If your removalists arrive and you haven’t told them about your piano, expect them to need to amend your quote.

What if I need boxes for packing my things?

Easy! Many removalist services can provide boxes for you. But if your removalist doesn’t offer this service, most self storage locations sell boxes and other packing materials to help you. If packing materials and boxes are something you need for your move, ask your removalist Tasker or Business; we’re sure they’ll be happy to provide some advice.

Do I need my own insurance?

No. Most removalist companies have insurance tailored specifically to the work they do. Helpfully, BorisDoes Tasker and Business profiles include things like insurance, registrations, and police checks. That means you can check that your Tasker or Business has the insurance they need to move your furniture and other household goods safely and without the risk of loss. If you still have questions, ask your Tasker or Business; we’re sure they’d be happy to answer any questions you have.

What’s the best way to get an accurate quote for furniture removal?

BorisDoes has introduced the Smart Quote feature which allows you to get an idea of how much your removal service will cost. When you request a quote you’ll be prompted to include some details about the items you plan to have moved, the number of rooms your house has, starting point and destination, any unique or valuable items, and any access issues or considerations at your current house or the house you are moving to. This information will help our Smart Quote tool to generate an estimated cost for your move. This information will also be provided to the Tasker or Business you choose to help them align their quote with your Smart Quote. Of course, if you don’t include all details then your Smart Quote might not be as accurate and your Tasker or Business will need to provide a more detailed quote based on your specific advice. But the Smart Quote is a great place to start and a handle tool for estimating your potential costs and securing affordable prices.

How is one person going to move all of my furniture?

Most removalists are supported by a professional team of movers; sub-contractors or employees. So while your Tasker might be just one person, they understand it takes a good team to move a whole house worth of furniture. Don’t be afraid to ask your Tasker about their team; most are very proud of them and will happily tell you all about them. If you select a Business to complete your house move for you, they will usually send a team. Don’t worry, they’ll explain everything before they start. The removals industry is highly competitive and great customer service makes all the difference.

Are there some things I will need to move myself?

Yes, things like gas bottles (for your BBQ), paint, chemicals and animals are generally not covered by a removalist’s insurance so you’ll need to move those yourself. Your removalist will be able to tell you what they can’t move so that you can move them in your car.
